I cannot put into words how much this experience has meant to me and my ensemble. I have felt more rejuvenated, recharged, hopeful, cleansed and creative than I have in a very long time. Getting to know you all and the other brilliant inspiring groups up here with us has been the most fulfilling experience... It was truly magical and I will never forget my first experience here, as well as the bonds formed that will last well beyond this week.

Avaloch Farm joins the rich tradition of American institutions created to support the vision of our artists.

It was the combined vision of a dedicated philanthropist and a committed musician that provided the inspiration for Avaloch Farm. Dr. Alfred Tauber was seeking a way to bring something of lasting cultural value to the Boscawen, New Hampshire area. Cellist and music educator Deborah Sherr had long envisioned creating a professional musician’s retreat which would provide the resources and opportunities enjoyed by artists in other disciplines, but which were unavailable to performing musicians. Together they have designed an extraordinary concept, which has proven to be invaluable to performers and composers.

About the Area

Avaloch Farm is located in Boscawen, NH, a small agricultural community 75 miles north of Boston. The campus is down a dirt country road surrounded by acres of woods, cornfields and apple orchards. Visitors will have access to meadows and forests for hiking and a beautiful lake for swimming and boating. Although our residents will be provided with everything they will need on the campus, there is a home-made ice cream shop located on a local farm within walking distance. Avaloch is within 20 minutes driving from a multitude of restaurants, shops and attractions. Concord, the state capital is 10 miles away. For an avid hiker, NH presents many hiking opportunities in the area.
